SENTINEL NODE BIOPSY IN BREAST CANCER ABOUT A CASE.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The sentinel node biopsy is defined as the first node that receives drainage directly from the primary tumor of the mammary gland. If the sentinel node is negative on intraoperative pathology, unnecessary lymphadenectomy can be avoided. Sentinel lymph node biopsy may help some patients avoid more extensive lymph node surgery and thus minimize the undesirable effects resulting from bilevel axillary lymphadenectomy. Selective sentinel node biopsy is the most appropriate technique for staging breast cancer. In this article we present the case of a patient diagnosed with Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma who underwent conservative surgery plus selective sentinel node biopsy.
