Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pneumonia is a widespread type of infectious complication in patients who have suffered a stroke. It is related to high mortality, more extended hospital stays, and poor functional results that affect the patient's quality of life.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the risk factors associated with aspiration pneumonia in patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular events and its relationship with mortality at the Teodoro Hospital.
Maldonado Carbo, from May 2018 to May 2018.
2021.
METHODOLOGY:
retrospective study,
Longitudinal, correlational with analytical scope and quantitative approach that was carried out at the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital (HTMC), from May 2018 to May 2021.
RESULTS: The sample consisted of 442 patients: 277 males and 165 females. The mean age of the population was 70.5 years.
CONCLUSIONS: NAAI has a high prevalence and in-hospital mortality, is associated with multiple risk factors, and long-term functional outcomes in patients are poor.
