Abstract

Knee arthrodesis and limb lengthening with the "Orthofix Limb Reconstruction System™ (LRS)" external fixation system in patients with failed knee prosthesis is a salvage procedure in people with non-reconstructable knees, with massive tissue loss, infection, immunodeficiency, irreparable lesions of the extensor mechanism and failed knee arthroplasty. Aseptic loosening is the leading cause of failure in knee arthroplasties; prosthetic infection continues with an incidence of 1-20%. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and long-term functional results of arthrodesis and limb lengthening using the LRS external fixator in patients with knee prosthesis failure. This study was presented at the Annual Congress of the Medical Conferences of the Alcívar Hospital.
