Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pneumonia is a type of
very common infectious complication in patients
who have suffered a stroke. It is related to elevated
mortality, longer hospital stay and poor
functional outcomes that affect the quality of
patient life.
OBJECTIVE: Recognize risk factors
associated with aspiration pneumonia in patients
with acute ischemic stroke and its
relationship with mortality in Hospital Teodoro
Maldonado Carbo, from May 2018 to May 2018.
2021.
METHODOLOGY: Retrospective study,
longitudinal, correlational with analytical scope
and quantitative approach that was carried out in the
Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital (HTMC),
from May 2018 to May 2021.
RESULTS: Sample made up of 442
patients: 277 male, 165 female, the
mean age of the population was 70.5 years.
CONCLUSIONS: The NAAI has a high
prevalence and hospital mortality, is associated
to multiple risk factors and outcomes
long-term functional in patients are
bad.
KEY WORDS: Cerebrovascular accident,
aspiration pneumonia, dysphagia, nasogastric tube,
enteral feeding, NIHSS scale.
