Abstract

Cecal diverticulitis is known as an entity
not so frequent, presenting in great majority as
secondary or incidental diagnosis at laparoscopy
diagnostic. Between 4 and 16% of cases are diagnosed
correctly in the pre-operative; being the tomography
computed the imaging study of choice in the
assessment of patients with abdominal pain.
The objective of this paper is to describe the case of a
43-year-old patient with signs and symptoms suggestive of
appendicitis with diagnosis of cecal diverticulum by
laparoscopic finding.
Despite the complications that could arise in
the patient by the time of evolution of it with clinical picture
of acute abdomen, the opportune decision of the handling by
diagnostic laparoscopy with finding of a diverticulum
perforated cecal and its release, allowed in addition to the
immediate resolution of the pathology, sample taking
for cultivation, so that it was possible to have a
management of germ-specific antibiotic therapy that
was causing the infectious clinical evolution of the
patient, being able to aggravate it.
Timely diagnosis in cases like this pathology
infrequent, it is rarely performed in the preoperative period.
The initial indication for surgical exploration less
laparoscopically invasive allows resolution
effective at finding and correct treatment, avoiding
clinical complications in the patient, providing
benefits of a recovery in less time and the
return to your usual activities.
