ENDOSCOPIC APPROACH ENDONASAL GUIDED BY NEURONAVIGATION IN PITUITARY TUMORS: NEW NEUROSURGICAL TECHNIQUE IN ALCÍVAR HOSPITAL - GUAYAQUIL.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to present this new experience at Hospital Alcívar-Guayaquil in treating lesions in the sellar region through the endonasal endoscopic approach (using the endoscope and its respective optical tower). Traditionally, the microsurgical technique (use of the microscope) has been used at the Alcívar Hospital. The different phases of the procedure are exposed. Consequently, the clinical and surgical results are presented. The endonasal endoscopic approach to the sellar region is a new option that has come to stay due to its optical advantages, which allow a better performance of the neurosurgeon in the different phases of the approach in various pathologies of the sellar region. However, it is increasingly being used in areas adjacent to (the anterior cranial base, clivus, and others, which implies that it is a versatile and valuable technique that its results have demonstrated.
We present the first two cases operated on at Hospital Alcívar with an endonasal endoscopic approach to the sellar region with results of pathological anatomy of pituitary adenomas.
