Abstract

Review of the clinical and radiological results of patients with rheumatic foot, submitted to metatarsophalangeal arthrodesis of the first ray and resection of the second to fifth metatarsal head with arthrodesis using Kirchner nails at the General Hospital of Guayaquil IESS Ceibos since 2018 to 2020.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: It is a prospecti›•e and comparative study of the clinical and radiological condition before and after the surgical procedure. It is descriptive and observational with a group of female patients from January 2018 to January 2020. There were a total of 18 patients with forefoot deformity and only 3 surgical procedures were performed, since they met the inclusion criteria, which was a symptomatic rheumatic foot with major degeneration.

RESULTS: the patients presented a remarkable recovery after the surgical intervention, the correction of the hallux valgus and the arthrodesis of the toes were good and with a functional result. Conclusions: the surgical procedure studied is reliable and effective, since the patients presented a significant improvement in their life quality, with a decrease in pain and adaptation to their activities of daily living after the surgical procedure.
