Abstract
Introduction: This text explores the enduring relevance of Hippocratic medicine in contemporary practice. The author begins by recounting the story of a Uruguayan physician who, after a long career, realized that his most impactful contributions to his patients' well-being came from his words rather than his medical interventions. The author then delves into the three pillars of Hippocratic medicine: the separation of medicine from religion, the reliance on evidence-based protocols, and the profound respect and ethics inherent in patient care. Several Hippocrates' aphorisms, such as "walking is the best medicine" and "everything in excess is bad," are cited as timeless principles. The text concludes with an appeal for young physicians to embrace innovative technologies while always maintaining sight of the importance of compassionate patient care.
