Upper digestive bleeding is one of the most frequent pathologies in the gastroenterology service. It is characterized by bleeding between the esophagus and the Treitz ligament, which can be of varicose and non-varicose origin. In Ecuador, mortality is between 7 and 15%, with a risk of rebleeding between 10 and 20%; there is a greater prevalence in males and people over 65 years of age; among the main risk factors is the consumption of traditional NSAIDs, Helicobacter Pylori infection, anticoagulants, and smoking. The purpose of this work is to report a clinical case at the Alcívar Hospital Conference of upper digestive bleeding related to short-term consumption of Meloxicam and smoking as a significant risk factor.
