Main Article Content
Abstract
Syringomyelia is the presence of cystic cavitation in the spinal cord, its etiology not yet well established is considered to be of congenital, acquired and idiopathic origin.
It is frequently associated with scoliosis and Chiari deformity type 1. It has been documented that this rare entity requires surgical treatment when it presents symptoms, which usually have a subacute or chronic clinical course characterized by sensory and motor deficits that compromise gait, control of sphincters and sexual impotence. We present three cases in which a syringo-subaranoid shunt was performed, obtaining good and excellent results according to the assessment scales used.
