Main Article Content
Abstract
Pediatric patients diagnosed with cancer have a higher frequency rate in the condition called
"Febrile neutropenia". At the time the diagnosis is made, the doctor should conduct a good physical examination, laboratory tests, and obtain cultures prior to starting antibiotics. Fever can be an indicator of the development of a severe bacterial infection, in these cases the doctor should start treatment with antibiotics.
Febrile Neutropenoa is a condition characterized by fever and a lower than normal number of neutrophils in the blood. A neutrophil is a type of white blood cell that helps fight infection. A low number of neutrophils in cancer patients increases the risk of infection.
In the present study, the incidence, characterization, cultures performed and results obtained, antibiotics administered in the 4 patients analyzed who attended the Emergency Service of the Alcívar Hospital in the period from January to July of the year 2019 are analyzed.
